Fragrance is very important in this choice. Nowadays natural aromatic substances of animal and vegetable origins as well as synthetics are used. There is a short history of the role of these compounds in cosmetic procedures and treatment, presented in this paper. A connection between chemical structure and olfactory sensations was also shown. Finally, origins and ways of obtaining aromatic substances, their role in cosmetology and their perception in humans.
