Summary
Each cosmetic product appearing on the market has to fulfill standards determined by law. The choice of preservatives added to products depends on the product´s formula, there has to be chemical compatibility with other excipients in a given preparation, there should also be an appropriate activity of a preservative to prevent the development of bacteria, fungi and moulds. The amount of the added preservative depends on the product´s exploitation time, but above all on the type and the place of the product´s application and the size of its packaging. The cosmetic product should be well-designed to make the access of microorganisms impossible and prevent water separation because it might cause their growth.
