Summary
Many plants from Brassicaceae family, especially cabbage and their numerous lower-level taxa are used as vegetables, eg. head cabbage, cauliflower, kale, brussels sprout and broccoli. Isothiocyanate glucosides (glucosinolates), polyphenols nad sterols are active substances of leaves and inflorescences of this plants. There are some more structurally complicated combinations of glucosinolates with flavonoids and phenolic acids, occurred in cabbage plants. An extracts nad other products of Brassicaceae plants are cosmetic preparations constituents. These ingredients are used mostly as skin conditioning, hair conditioning, astringent, humectant and skin protecting agents. Activities of cosmetic components are partially identified as mild medicinal properties connected with phytochemical composition. Cosmetic ingredients derived from Brassica oleracea cultivars and latter results of phytochemical characteristic of these plants are shortly presented in this paper.
