Summary
Introduction. Hyperhidrosis is characterized by excessive sweating beyond that which is physiologically indicated to maintain normal thermal homeostasis. In hyperhidrosis, this excessive sweating occurs regardless of environmental temperature and is frequently accompanied by stress. In the treatment of hyperhidrosis we can use local, general and operative procedures.
Aim. The aim of this paper is to present the effectiveness of botulinum toxin in the treatment of hyperhidrosis.
Material and method. The questionnaire study was conducted in the group of 90 patients (38 female and 52 male), who were treated due to hyperhidrosis. The questionnaire included 29 questions.
Results. In the studies group 78 persons had operative treatment of hyperhidrosis: 40 patients had injections of botulinum toxin, 30 - laser therapy, 6 - iontophoresis and 2 procedure with microwaves. The level of satisfaction was the biggest in the group of patients treated with botulinum toxin.
Conclusions. Botulinum toxin gives good results in the treatment of hyperhidrosis. The symptoms of hyperhidrosis decrease the quality of life and depressed the level of self-esteem. Among operative procedures, botulinum toxin seems to be the most frequently used and have the best results.
