Summary
Introduction. Skin is the largest organ in the human body and has many important functions. First of all, it protects internal organs and receives stimuli from the external environment. It can also signal that disease processes are taking place inside the body.
Aim. The aim of the study was to assess the frequency of coexistence of systemic diseases with changes in the skin, hair and nails, as well as examining the knowledge of the respondents on this topic.
Material and methods. The subject of the research was a group of 50 hospital patients (31 women and 19 men) diagnosed with systemic diseases. The main problem of the work was to determine if there were coexisting changes with the main disease are common, whether they affect the acceptance of the respondents´ appearance, and whether they exacerbate with the exacerbation of the main disease. The research technique used was a questionnaire, and the research tool - its questionnaire. The research was conducted among patients of the Hospital of Franciszek Dłutek in Rypin.
Results. Most respondents struggled with diseases of the thyroid gland and digestive system. The relationship studies confirmed that systemic diseases significantly differentiate the types of skin lesions and that gender differentiates the respondents due to the association of the coexistence of skin lesions with the existing disease.
Conclusion. The most important conclusion is that the skin is a mirror of overall health - systemic diseases often manifest themselves through changes in color, structure and overall skin condition.
