Summary
Azelaic acid (AzA) began to be used in dermatology in the 1980s. Its effects were accidentally discovered in studies on hypochromia in variegated dandruff. Further studies have shown that azelaic acid has a bleaching effect, and also has anti-blackhead, anti-acne, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory effects. Due to these properties, it is currently widely used in both cosmetics and dermatological drugs.
