Summary
The effects of lavender and its uses were documented in antiquity by Theophrastus, Pedanius Dioscorides, Gaius Plinius Secundus, Claudius Galenus and many other scholars from ancient Greece, Rome, Persia. Based on the knowledge of ancient sciences, gardens of medicinal plants were established in monasteries all over Europe during the Middle Ages. The importance of lavender in modern times is still great. The therapeutic properties of lavender in many diseases and disinfecting actions allow for the preparation of ointments, infusions, tinctures and have a great impact on the development of cosmetics, perfumery and soap factories.
