Regardless of the advances in technology and hygiene, it can affect anyone. In the past, it was claimed to be responsible for the spread of dangerous bacterial diseases, now it is indicated that it participates in secondary superinfections and weakening the immune system of the sick person. The infection occurs during close contact with a sick person or objects in their close vicinity. The symptoms of the disease include: intense itching, edema papules, urticaria vesicles, pruritus excoriations, in the areas of: temporal, occipital and behind the scalp. Treatment of head lice mainly consists in prophylaxis, partial isolation of the sick person and the use of agents containing active synthetic substances (pediculocides and silicones) and of natural origin (mineral compounds, essential oils and plant extracts). The use of repellants seems to be indispensable, i.e. measures to prevent secondary superinfection and the multiplication of parasites between treatments. The aim of the work is to present the topic of Pediculosis capitis and review the available preparations for its treatment, as well as alternative methods. The use of appropriate methods of treatment and prevention significantly affects the effectiveness and success of therapy, as well as reduces the risk of complications.
