Smoking addiction causes loss of elasticity and reduction of the skin´s regenerative capacity, impeding wound healing. It induces processes accelerating skin aging, intensifies the symptoms of dermatoses and skin cancer processes. Aim. To assess the cosmetology students´ awareness of the impact of cigarette smoking on skin condition. Material and method. In the study participated 100 students of cosmetology, bachelor (SL) and master (SM) students. The research was conducted using the author´s anonymous survey containing 17 closed questions closely related to the topic of the thesis. Results. 100% SM and 86% SL have good and sufficient knowledge of the effects of cigarette smoking on the skin. According to 56% SM and 48% SL, the state of knowledge does not affect the abandonment of addiction because students disregard its effects despite their knowledge. 78% of SM and 80% of SL think that lesions on the smoker´s skin can´t be removed, just softened. Only 54% of MS and 42% of SL correctly indicated that women are more exposed to the negative effects of smoking. 90% SL and SM indicated yellow discoloration of the hands and the earthy color of the face as the most common skin lesions in smokers. Telangiecthesis was more often indicated by MS. On the other hand, improved efficacy of aphthous stomatitis treatment in smokers statistically more often marked SL. 92% of MS considered a reduction in aerobic transport as the effect of the adverse effects of tobacco smoke on the skin. Exfoliation with acids and microdermabrasion are the most frequently indicated cosmetic procedures that eliminate lesions on the smoker´s skin. Conclusions. 1. the awareness of the study group is classified at a fairly high level, 2. students are aware that smoking causes negative effects on smokers´ skin and know how to care for it properly, 3. smokers neglect the negative effects of smoking despite having knowledge.
