Summary
Introduction. Cellulite lipodystrophy is a change in the shape of the skin, occurring mainly in women around the hips, abdomen, thighs, buttocks. It is characterized by the formation of irregular lumps and nodules, which are the result of faulty circulation and weakening of connective tissue. The phenomenon of cellulite formation can be divided into stages constituting successive stages of this pathology.
Aim. The aim of the study was to assess women´s awareness and knowledge about cellulite, its impact on health as well as attitudes and actions taken by them regarding this problem.
Material and methods. 135 women, aged 18 to 65, took part in the study. These women were asked to complete their own survey, which contained 24 questions divided into three parts. The first part contained the record and questions about the lifestyle of all respondents. The second was the part checking the general knowledge of all respondents. The third part of the survey was directed only to women with cellulite, including their actions in reducing lipodystrophy.
Results. 75% of women surveyed noticed cellulite, of which 37% try to fight it using only treatments that they can do themselves at home. 67% of cellulite holders assessed these activities as inefficient or ineffective. 40% of women think that cellulite has a negative effect on health. The same amount does not know if it has this defect, and 20% say that cellulite does not affect health.
Conclusions. Our research has shown that a significant proportion of respondents with cellulite do not attempt to reduce it, although for most of them it is a serious aesthetic defect. Some women who opt for anti-cellulite treatments performed at home too rarely carry out the treatment to bring the expected results.
