Summary
Physical examination in cosmetology gives an opportunity to assess the health of the examined person by identifying objective (subject) symptoms of ailments reported by the clients. It is mainly used for clinical evaluation of cutaneous lesions and aesthetic defects. Therefore, cosmetologists are required to be able to use physical techniques accurately. The cosmetology examination also includes palpation.
The aim of the work is to present the main rules for performing palpation examination in cosmetology. The article focuses on discussing two main goals of palpation: location and assessment of the therapeutic area. The importance of a conscious touch was emphasized, not only during the examination of clients, but also during the cosmetology treatment. Proposals concerning the use of the art of palpation were presented in each case, when the cosmetologist´s hands are in contact with the client´s body. Exercises were suggested to help cosmetologists developing and improving their palpation skills.
