During pregnancy not only women´s body is changing, but also the majority of physiological processes, including absorption and distribution of chemical components from the skin. Therefore, a special attention should be paid to cosmetics used during pregnancy, so that they would help instead of making any harm. A professional cosmetologist can offer safe treatments during pregnancy. However, many popular therapies can be dangerous, such as: treatments using electricity, radio waves, lasers, powerful ultrasonic waves (for slimming treatments) or cryolipolysis and acid exfoliation. Aim. The aim of the work was to show whether and to what extent women care for the skin of their body and face during pregnancy. Material and methods. The survey took place in the gynecology and obstetrics clinics at Bydgoszcz, where a group of 180 pregnant women, anonymously filled out questionnaires regarding the use of cosmetics in pregnancy. The completed questionnaires and received answers were subjected to statistical analysis, and the results were presented graphically. Results. Most women use a proper facial and body care that is rich in various cosmetic products. However, the percentage of women that don´t care for their complexion enough is surprisingly high and concerns mainly pregnant women from the youngest age group (16-25 years). Younger women also often deliberately give up skin care during pregnancy because of fear for the safety of using cosmetic products. Conclusions. There is a clear need to educate young women about the safety of using cosmetics during pregnancy and the creation of specialized product lines for pregnant women.
