Summary
Nanotechnology is an interdisciplinary, dynamic field of science that is increasingly used in engineering, medicine, veterinary, pharmacy and in cosmetology. Nanoparticles are a type of material that is often characterized by properties completely different from the substance from which they are obtained. Nanoparticles of metals and metal oxides are used in dermatological and cosmetological applications in the form of preparations protecting against the harmful effects of the sun and accelerating skin repair processes, in the prevention and treatment of bacterial and fungal infections of the skin. Nanoparticles, which are used in cosmetics, have significant effectiveness, but their large surface area in relation to the size and proven ability to penetrate biological membranes can cause side effects and potential danger to human health.

Key words: nanoparticles, photoprotection, titanium oxide, cosmetic preparations
