Summary
The skin is the first line of defence against microorganisms. Bacteria, viruses, archaea and fungi can colonize the skin surface and create a specific skin microbiome. Some of these tiny organisms have good impact on the skin (such as: Lactobacillus johnsonii, Roseomonas mucosa), the other can be pathogenic and might cause disease (such as: Candida albicans, Staphyloccocus aureus). Resources on skin surface cause the microorganisms to compete for this environment. The relationship between bacteria, fungi, algae might be beneficial for the host as well as very dangerous. The purpose of this literature review is to show the relationships between specific microorganisms which compete on the skin surface. Moreover there is demonstration on how cosmetics can influence the skin microbiome.
