Aim. The aim of the study was to assess the level of knowledge of podiatric patients about hiperkeratoses of the feet, to show possible errors of foot care and to identify the main reasons for their formation.
Materials and method. The questionnaire survey was carried out among 100 patients of podiatry clinics with a hiperkeratoses of feet. The research was performed using a questionnaires of our own design.
Results. Several years of hyperkeratotic changes were declared by 52% of respondents. During the exfoliation performed at home alone, the majority of respondents (54%) felt the heat within the development of the lesion and removed the hiperkeratoses until the skin was pink, which in turn resulted increase hiperkeratotic changes. Most of the respondents did not notice improvement after their caring activities.
Conclusions. The level of knowledge of podiatry patients regarding the problem of hyperkeratoses and their prevention is not satisfactory. Hyperkeratoses in the foot skin are very common in people with deformities and foot defects, as well as in circulatory diseases and hypothyroidism. It seems necessary to implement educational activities aimed at raising the level of knowledge about hyperkeratoses and their prevention.
