Keratotic changes within the feetAgnieszka Garncarczyk, Katarzyna Adamczyk, Paweł Antończak Zakład Kosmetologii Katedry Kosmetologii, Wydział Farmaceutyczny z Oddziałem Medycyny Laboratoryjnej w Sosnowcu, Śląski Uniwersytet Medyczny w Katowicach Summary Hyperkeratosis is a thickening of the stratum corneum due to the action of mechanical forces. The most frequent symptoms of hyperkeratosis within the feet are corns and calluses. These changes locate in different areas of the foot and take different shapes, depending on the distribution of mechanical forces acting on the sole of the foot. In order to prevent hyperkeratotic changes, systematic podiatric treatments are recommended to remove keratinized epidermis, choose appropriate footwear and use unloading and protective orthoses, pelottes, podologic inserts and keratolytic products. Surgical techniques correcting abnormalities in the skin structure of the foot in the treatment of corns and calluses are used when the conservative treatment failed.
