It highlights the important position of this group of amorphous materials in the production of cosmetics, medicines and foodstuffs. The main part of the work is a detailed characterization of eight plant gums and plant species being the source of them. The review included both plant species, which are pharmacopoeial raw materials (Acacia sp., Astragalus sp., Cyamopsis tetragonolobus) as well as numerous other species which provide gum important in the production of cosmetics and foodstuffs.
