Cobalt and its compounds as allergenesJacek Arct, Katarzyna Stasiurka, Katarzyna Pytkowska Wyższa Szkoła Kosmetyki i Pielęgnacji Zdrowia w Warszawie Summary Hypersensitivity to cobalt and its compounds are increasingly noted by dermatologists. These are type IV allergies caused by skin contact with hapten. Due to the common occurrence of nickel and chrome allergies, cobalt allergies are relatively underestimated. The most common cause of allergic reactions to cobalt are its alloys used in the manufacture of everyday items, as well as sinters in the metallurgical industry. A method has been developed to easily detect this element in the presence of other metals. The second cause of cobalt sensitization are cosmetics and the compounds used in dyeing the leather. Unfortunately, until now, no law has been developed in the EU restricting the use of this metal. Key words: cobalt, allergies, jewelry, clothing, metal industry, leather, cosmetics, ceramics |
