Aim. To examine the level of professional burnout in beauty therapists and cosmetologists working in Poland.
Materials and methods. Questionnaire of our own design based on the MBI Christina Maslach questionnaire was used. The survey was filled by 100 professionally active beauty therapists and cosmetologists. Participation in the study was voluntary and anonymous.
Results. Majority of respondents felt very satisfied or satisfied with their work. All respondents liked their work with clients, and most of them did not want to change jobs to those with no contact with them. Working with them was rarely difficult and stressful for less than half of the respondents (47%), and for 36% - at times. Helplessness faced with problems encountered in daily work was rare in 56% of the respondents, and often only in 2%. Motivation to attend the work of respondents mostly high or very high. 91% of respondents did not feel anxious or discouraged while going to work. Less than half of respondents (42%) rarely complained about their work, 31% of them occasionally, and 18% did not.
Conclusions. The level of professional burnout among beauty therapists and cosmetologists working in Poland is low. There are small correlations between the occurrence of professional burnout and the age of the respondents, their education, and their traineeship and work system. Professional burnout is influenced by individual, interpersonal and organizational factors.
