Nowadays, there is a "fashion" of oiling the hair before washing to improve its condition and appearance. Reports in the literature on the effects of oil on hair generally concern studies on the impact of coconut oil, but also sunflower oil, brazil nuts oil, palm oil, rice oil, sesame oil, mustard oil, olive oil, and some butters. Oil penetration into the hair, reduction of moisture absorption by the hair, oil influence on mechanical properties of the hair and the general condition of hair and scalp were investigated. The effect of oil use before and after washing was also compared. The results confirm observations of Internet users. The use of oil before washing improves hair combing, which in turn reduces damage caused during the process. The oil applied after washing makes the hair shiny but does not affect the reduction of swelling of the hair and the scaling, which has a significant effect on the combing of the hair. The studies also confirmed the effectiveness of coconut oil on the hair, which penetrates the hair, although its distribution within the hair is not even. Undoubtedly, the use of oils prior to hair washing improves the appearance of the hair cuticle cushion and reduces damage caused by excessive swelling of the hair. However, the one-use application of oils does not significantly improve the cortex condition. Key words: hair structure, hair oiling, oil penetration, hair mechanical properties |
