Summary
The natural origin substances are becoming a subject matter of major preoccupation in both cosmetology and pharmacoteraphy. Therefore, they have recently become a subject of series of studies. The researchers have been extensively analyzing the organic active ingredients contained in food, that can be potentially used in treatment of different illnesses. The source of these components are commonly known plants like wheat, tomatoes or corn.
Among the active substances, a group worth mentioning are phenol acids, with its leader - ferulic acid. It proves to be highly therapeutic in diseases like breast cancer, diabetes, cardio-vascular system diseases or neurodegenerative diseases. Its positive influence on health is connected with its antioxidant properties that result in hydroxyl group presence. Its destructive influence on free radicals qualifies it as a food additive. Numerous research of its antioxidant properties has confirmed its resistance to cancer, diabetes, inflammation, bacteria, and atherosclerosis. Moreover, it has neuroprotective, UV protective and moisturizing functions.
In medicine and cosmetology, the properties of its antiradical mechanism have become one of the reasons to recognize ferulic acid as a highly attractive substance in the context of its being applied in various therapeutic realizations.
