Summary
Among ingredients of cosmetic preparations, plant ingredients play an important role. These are products from both cultivated and common weeds. Cosmetic Ingredients Databas (CosIng) contains data about two Sisymbrium L. species - hedge mustard and London rocket, which are used as tonic and conditioning agent, as well as for masking agents. The paper presents information on the traditional use of S. officinale (L.) Scop. and S. irio L. along with reports of their biological effects that may justify their use in cosmetology and medicine. Current information on the chemical composition of both species (glucosinolates, essential oil, flavonoids, sterols and others) has been compiled. The results of the in vitro studies on extracts from both plants in cell lines and pathogenic microorganisms and animal experiments (in vivo) are presented in the literature.
