Summary
Pregnancy, despite the fact that it is a physiological period in a woman´s life, is associated with numerous changes in her body, primarily in the hormonal, metabolic and immune system. These changes may often affect the deterioration of the skin. Even in the 21st century, skin care for pregnant women still raises a great deal of conflicting reviews.
This paper aims to raise awareness among pregnant women, informing that skin care during this period is particularly necessary. Currently on the market, there are cosmetic preparations which ingredients are completely safe for the fetus and the mother. However, this review presents cosmetic substances that may adversely affect the development of the fetus and the health of future mothers.

Key words: pregnancy, prevention and skin care, cosmetic raw materials safe for the fetus and the mother
