The procedure of epidermis exfoliation is carried out to improve skin structure. Exfoliation can be made by mechanical, biological or chemical way. Depending on the depth of treatment during the exfoliation it can be divided into the deep, semi-deep and superficial. An additional advantage of the procedure is to stimulate the skin to be more proactive in the wellness processes. Exfoliation can be performed using herbal body scrubs. Aim. To assess the impact of the exfoliation using Polish Herbal Peeling Jadwiga (PPZJ) and a mixture of ground herbs together with auxiliaries for the operation of acne skin and skin with a defect of hyperkeratosis pilaris on the area of forearms. Materials and methods. The peeling treatment was conducted using PPZJ and mixtures of ground herbs with the auxiliaries in the laboratory conditions. Measurements were made for moisture of treated skin, additionally the skin renewal processes were observed. Results. Decrease in a skin hydration from above 30% to a level of several percent was observed on the third day after applying PPZJ. Herbal mixture which was prepared based on the herbal composition of the PPZJ gave exfoliating effect only with a 25% glycolic acid. Starting from the fourth day after treatment the renewal process of the epidermis was observed for both kinds of treated skin types. Conclusions. Applying of PPZJ caused great decrease of skin moisture and thus it comes to effective and rapid exfoliation. The use of herbal mixture in combination with the selected materials such as milk, lemon juice, sauerkraut juice, ethanol 40%, "Lotion Herbal Concentrate" combined with hydrogen peroxide could not act as an exfoliating preparation. The effect of herbal exfoliating scrubs is a result of additional components such as glycolic acid. Key words: peeling herbal, herbs, skin acne, follicular hyperkeratosis |
