The main shampoo ingredients are surfactants (SPC) responsible for the basic product properties. Therefore, a study of the effect of shampoos surfactants composition on the selected physicochemical parameters are important from the application point of view and will allow to select the proper cosmetic in the daily practice. Aim. The primary aim of this work was to determine the relationship between the surfactants composition of various liquid hair shampoos and selected physicochemical parameters as well as the product price. Materials and methods. The INCI composition of the twenty shampoos, including seven for children and their function in examined cosmetics was evaluated. For the examined shampoos the solid content after drying, density of the product, pH and the conductivity of aqueous solutions as well as the foam value were determined. For the parameters the mean values, standard deviations and correlations between the surfactants composition and physicochemical parameters as well as the product price were calculated. Results. It was found that the examined shampoos contain from 3 to 11 surfactants, wherein the nonionic surfactants are performed in all the shampoos, anionic in 95%, amphoteric in 75% and cationic in 45% of the INCI formulations. The examined shampoos varied widely in solids content after drying, pH and conductivity, while slightly differed in product density and the foam value. Conclusions. The correlation study between the surfactants composition and the physicochemical parameters showed statistically significant correlations of solid content after drying, density, pH and product price with the anionic surfactants content as well as the pH with nonionic surfactants content. Generally, in the twenty examined hair shampoos a significant effect of the type and amount of surfactants on some physicochemical parameters and the product price was found.
