Summary
Introduction. Cosmetic massage, in some circles, is considered primarily in terms of treatment whose main purpose is a care effect. Increasingly, however, attention is paid to the relaxation effects of this treatment. The aim of the study was to assess the degree of relaxation after the face massage, measured by electrodermal activity (EDA) Ryodoraku metods and the mood questionnaire.
Material and methods. The studies involved a total of 69 women aged 19-42 years. Treatment group consisted of 44 people that were subjected a single facial massage and triple EDA measurement. In the control group (25 women) there was a double EDA measurement. Both groups filled the Mood Adjective Check List (UMACL).
Results. Statistically significant reduction of the mean values of EDA in the treatment group was observed. This shows that the activity of symphatetic nervous system (ANS) decreased, which translates into a relaxing effect of the treatment. UMACL mood scale results showed no significant differences between the groups.
Conclusions. Cosmetic massage can be a recommended method in techniques for reaching effects of relaxation. A device for measuring the EDA Ryodoraku can be extremely useful in the professional work of the specialists connected with cosmetology, especially when making objective evaluations of the effectiveness of a relaxation treatments.
