Healthy nails are shiny, pinkish and convex. Changes of the nails might be connected with color changes, shape, or structure changes. The most common defects od nails connected with traumatic situations are different types of hematomas, tile, onycholysis, ingrown toenails. Injuries may be a permanent part of irritant or be disposable, mechanical, chemical. Aim. The aim of this study was to investigate the most common nail problems caused by trauma within males and females of all ages, enjoying professional services manicure. Material and methods. The study was conducted in three offices of cosmetology/chiropody. The study sample consisted 108 respondents (86 women and 22 men). The research tool was a questionnaire that included 18 questions concerning the place of residence, education, financial condition, changes in the nails, the circumstances of their formation, frequency of use manicure/pedicure etc. Results and Conclusions. The most common defects of the nail plate within women were hematomas and onycholysis, while in men case there was ingrown toenail. People who have had a better financial situation often benefit from professional manicure and pedicures. Persons biting their nails indicated that they were exposed to stress.
