Chemical peeling is a procedure that involves the application of a chemical agent to the skin to induce controlled exfoliation of epidermis layers. Very superficial peeling which are commonly performed are those with alpha-hydroxy acids. Aim. The aim of the paper was to evaluate the effectiveness of chemical peeling with the usage of alpha-hydroxy acids and to know the motivations which cause that woman decide to perform chemical peeling. Material and method. The questionnaire studies were performed in the group of 50 women in the age between 18-56 years, who underwent alpha-hydroxy acids procedure. The questionnaire included 22 questions. Results. Most of questionnaired women observed improvement in complexion appearance, remission of acne and acne scarring. More than half of the respondents evaluated the result of such procedures as very good or good. There were no complications in the majority of women. Conclusions. Motivations to perform procedures with usage of alpha-hydroxy acids include mainly the need to improve skin texture, elimination of acne and acne scarring. The results of such procedure are evaluated as very good and good. Peelings with alpha-hydroxy acids are safe and the risk of complications is small.
