Application of snail slime in cosmetics

Summary
Snails constitute an unusually numerous and varied group of mollusks, because it consist of 150 thousand of species. In ancient Rome and Greece, they were used for the first time as therapeutic agents. In the 20th century, interest in medical and cosmetic properties of snails returned again because of farmers from Chile who have grown the mollusks from Helix Aspersa Müller species. The first cream with Helix extract has appeared in Chile cosmetic market in January 1995. The wide range of snail slime extract activities is a result of the presence of many natural substances. The chemical composition consists of allantoin, glycolic acid, mucopolysaccharides, natural antibiotics, vitamins, antioxidants and proteins. Such a content guarantees high usefulness of cosmetics products with it in caring of different types of skin disorders like acne, ulcers and sunburns. Also, it can repair deeper layers of skin. The snail slime extract cosmetics are characterized by antimicrobial, antioxidant and proliferating properties. Such natural care products are also well tolerant by the persons with allergy.
