Summary
Due to the constantly increasing number of new melanoma malignum cases and deaths, this cancer is a serious oncological problem. This situation is undoubtedly the result of insufficient knowledge about the disease and risk factors. Prevention is crucial, because the cancer in early stages can be overcome. An important group of "health promoters" are cosmetologists. Their activities should include, inter alia, educating customers about the harmful skin effects of excessive doses of ultraviolet radiation, but above all, promotion of prevention rules of this dangerous cancer. It is especially important to emphasize the role of proper sun protection, after tan skin care and the "safe sunbathing" rules. However, it is also important to remind patients about regular follow-up appointment with dermatologists or surgeons - oncologists to examine or remove suspicious pigmented moles. Moreover, daily contact with patients gives cosmetologists possibility to notice very early characteristics of malignant transformation within the mole, clinically unchanged skin and subungual area, and direct of a patient to a medical specialist. The above-mentioned activities can significantly reduce the risk of melanoma malignum.
