Summary
Introduction. In the profession of cosmetologist, the essential factor for the success of treatments, is the knowledge of changes in the skin, including those, which depend on the concentration of circulating hormones. Awareness of the changes and the observation of the skin, allow to make a proper analysis and to select the appropriate products to harmonize the functioning of the skin.
Aim. The aim of this study was to assess changes in one of the characteristics of the skin (smoothness) depending on the concentration of estradiol in the blood - steroid sex hormone, which is responsible, among others for the appearance of the skin.
Material and methods. The study involved 57 women in four age groups. Triplicate measurements were made to check the smoothness of the skin and serum levels of estradiol in the blood. All measurements were performed under the same conditions and on the same days at 5th, 15th and 25th day of menstrual cycle.
Results. It has been found, that unstable blood level of estradiol, causes fluctuations in the skin smoothness, what is especially noticeable in the initial phase of the menstrual cycle and increases with age. It was also found, that the most favorable for smoothness, concentration of estradiol is 50 pg/ml.
Conclusions. It can be concluded that with age, women´s skin is more sensitive to abnormal levels of estradiol and on the basis of the results, we can prepare preventive skin care program, supporting functions of the skin, for patients in different age groups.
