Flavonoid compounds in cosmetics and dermatology

Summary
Flavonoids are one of the most widespread natural compounds of plant origin. These compounds are of great interest because of very broad spectrum of biological activity, with no side effects. Flavonoids are very effective antioxidants. This compounds prevent many diseases through effective scavenging of free radicals. One of the main causes of skin aging are the free radicals. These strong reactive particles destroy various structures of DNA, proteins and cell membranes. Surface application of antioxidants neutralizes the effects of free radicals. Cosmetics based on flavonoids make the skin regains its elasticity, density and is well nourished. Phytoestrogens, which include isoflavones give excellent effects at the menopause during the care mature skin losing elasticity, prone to drying.
