The use of selected Hydroxy Acids in daily facial skin care - review of recent research application

Summary
The history of conscious to use of hydroxy acids goes back of the nineteenth century, when In 1882 the German dermatologist P.G. Unna described the properties of salicylic acid. The ancient Egyptians to improve the appearance of the skin preparations used to facilitate the peeling of the stratum corneum, containing among other things alabaster powder [1]. These days, when the effectiveness of the hydroxy acids can be proven by scientific studies in a completely safe way to use them in daily skin care. Hydroxy acids are among the most widely used active ingredients in cosmetics. These substances are used for shallow or deep exfoliation, moisturizing, reducing pigmentation and brightening change color of skin, remove fine wrinkles, acne scars and smooth the facial skin. Action of hydroxy acids mainly depends on their concentration in a cosmetic preparation, the pH and the nature of the acid. In this article we present the main representatives of hydroxy acids, often differing in many respects.
