Summary
Micronutrients are elements present in trace amounts in organisms. Their presence is essential for proper growth, development and metabolism. Micronutrient deficiency may lead to lowered resistance of the organism and development of many diseases, e.g. anaemia, tumours, and bone deformities.
Boron (B) is one of the important trace elements. It has an important role in the human organism by its effect on processes of bone mineralization, and hormone and lipid metabolism. Boron compounds (e.g. boron nitrate, orthoboric acid, sodium tetraborate) are used in the cosmetics industry as ingredients of toothpaste, powder, or makeup foundation. The compounds are known for their antiseptic, whitening, moisturizing, and covering properties.
