Preservatives - advantageous or harmful?

Summary
Aim. In the paper the preservatives contained in cosmetic preparations are described, along with the analysis of balms,shampoos and creams in the aspect of used preservatives.
Methods. The statistic data were obtained by analysis of chemical compositions found on wrapping of cosmetics,as well as from folders accessible in drugstores and pharmacies. The achieved data are summarized in tables and diagrams.
Results and Conclusions. In balms and creams the most used are parabens, not so often phenoxyethanol is present, and only seldom EDTA, citric acid and DMDM hydrantion, 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol are to be found. In shampoos however, the most used preservatives are methylchloroisothiazolinone and citric acid, not so often DMDM hhydration and parabens are to be found, while EDTA and phenoxyethanolvery only seldom are present.
