Summary
Every year all over the world, also in Poland, the incidence of skin cancers increases. The main carcinogenic factor is excessive exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UV) of solar and artificial (solaria) origin. Therefore, the best strategy aimed at the reduction of the prevalence of skin cancer is to educate the population about UV hazardousness and methods of sun protection. Skin health promotion of this type should be included into professional tasks of such professional groups, as e.g. cosmetologists. Apart from propagation of skin cancer prevention principles, cosmetologists should play an important part in early detection of the changes by referring the patients with worrying symptoms to dermatologists or oncologic surgeons.

Key words: melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, sun protection, solarium
