Summary
Metaloproteinases are extracellular or membrane, metal-dependant protein hydrolases. Metaloproteinases constitute zinc- or calcium-dependant endopeptidases. In phisiological or pathological conditions it catalyse many ractions concerning vital processes of any tissue or organ. Increased activity of these enzymes was stated in malignancies, metastases, cardiac diseases and many skin illnesses. In response to modern trends in cosmetology numerous research has been done on introduction of metaloproteinases inhibitors to cometic preparations "intelligent cosmetics", which could prevent collagene degradation as well as skin aging.

Key words: metaloproteinases, metalloproteinases inhibitors, collagen degradation
