The significance of B vitamins in cosmetologyDaria Kaczmarczyk Katedra Kosmetologii, Wyższa Szkoła Fizjoterapii we Wrocławiu Summary The presence of vitamins in the body and the role they play in metabolic processes was discovered only at the beginning of the 20th century. Vitamins are organic compounds, necessary for normal running of important life processes within the human body. The B vitamins usually coexist in natural products. The rich sources of these vitamins are not only fruits and vegetables, but also whole bread, meat, milk and dairy products. In healthy humans, a well balanced and varied diet satisfies the demand for most of B vitamins. However, their content in food products may be influenced by the processes resulting from external factors or physicochemical properties of these vitamins. Both deficiency and excess of vitamins in the body may adversely affect human health. Each individual has a different demand for vitamins, often different from the accepted norm as it depends on multiple factors (age, gender, health state, etc.). A dynamic development of research on vitamins let us learn about the role of vitamins in the human body as well as a broader application in practice, particularly medicine, chemistry, nutrition or cosmetology. The B vitamins may be applied for hair, skin and nail diseases treatment, individually or in a form of vitamin B complex. In turn, B vitamins contained in cosmetics favourably affect human skin, especially a dry one with keratosis disorders, seborrhea and dandruff. Key words: B vitamins, cosmetics, health, diet, skin |
