Embedding of a part of the ornament to surrounding tissues as a rare complication after body piercing - report of 3 cases

Summary
Body piercing is becoming more and more popular. However it is not completely safe fashion. The aim of this paper is to present an unusual complication after body piecing, which appeared in 3 patients and to analyze the reasons of its occurrence. Three patients complaining of embedding a part of ornament into surrounding tissues came to Department of Plastic Surgery. In two patients complication occurred after ear piercing, in one patient after lip piercing. In all of the described patients too strong and constant pressure caused by ornament led to skin ischemia, followed by inflammation and decubitus ulcer, and consequently penetration of part of ornament into surrounding tissues.
