Summary
Aim. The aim of the study was to determine predisposition of binding agents (xanthan gum, carboxymethylcellulose sodium salt) tested in cosmetology to their application in the prescription of therapeutic dental hydrogels exhibiting anti-inflammatory properties. An attempt was made to estimate application properties of model preparations the vehicles of which were produced with the mentioned polysaccharides and also comparatively - on the base of Carbopol 974 P, certified fit for contact with oral cavity mucosa.
Material and method. Hydrogel prescriptions were worked out on variant vehicles the components of which were successively: xanthan gum, carboxymethylcellulose sodium salt and Carbopol 974 P. Viscosity parameters were tested with the cone-plate rheometer, the rate of volatile components loss - with gravimetric method and pH with potentiometric method. The test for ibuprofen pharmaceutical availability was performed with spectrophotometric method.
Results and discussion. At comparable for all gels changes of rheological parameters during exposure at human body temperature, Carbopol 974 P demonstrated the highest value of yield stress (48,0 N/m2). This proves its rigid structure and makes difficult spreading on pathologically changed tissue. The most beneficial pH not creating the risk of demineralisation was obtained for hydrogel with Carbopol 974 P. Pharmaceutical availability of ibuprofen was the highest from the preparation with Carbopol 974 P which resulted from specific linear cross-linking of polyacrylic acid through quaternary amino groups.
Conclusion. The vehiculum produced with Carbopol 974 P is an optimal vehicle for dental hydrogel with ibuprofen.
