In search for new methods of determination of the UV filter AvobenzoneAnna W. Sobańska, Elżbieta Brzezińska Zakład Chemii Analitycznej, Katedra Chemii Medycznej Uniwersytetu Medycznego w Łodzi Summary Literature review is presented concerned with identification and quantification methods for a commonly used sunscreen agent Avobenzone. On the basis of literature data it is concluded that the majority of methods reported so far involve various techniques of column chromatography. It is suggested that Avobenzone may be determined spectrophotometrically in the visible range after its derivatization. Spectrophotometrical studies within the UV/VIS range were carried out in order to evaluate Avobenzone potential to form colorful chelates with selected di- and trivalent metal cations. It was established that Avobenzone undergoes colorful reactions with all cations under investigation, of which VO2+, UO22+ and Fe3+ give especially intensive colors. Analytical wavelengths suitable for further research on appropriate coordination complexes were selected. Key words: Avobenzone, determination, chromatography, UV/VIS absorption |
