Summary
Introduction. Lactobionic acid belongs to the latest generation of hydroxyacids - polyhydroxyacids (PHAs). When applied topically, it strengthens the epidermal barrier´s activity, supports cellular regeneration process, induces desquamation of the horny layer cells´ surface. It stimulates fibroblasts to production of flexible collagen fibres and affects the production of glycosaminoglycans in dermis and exhibits strong antoxidative effects resulting from its ability to chelate e.g. iron ions.
Objective. The study was aimed at examining the effects of the preparation containing copper lactobionate on skin. Specifically, the contribution of copper lactobionate to furrows, wrinkles, teleangiectases and skin dryness was tested.
Material and methods. The studies were carried out on a group of 20 women. The procedure was carried out every 3 days for 1 month. Altogether, every patient was subjected to 10 procedures. During application, the ultrasound probe Sonostar II was used. Once a week a questionnaire was filled in, evaluating the increase in furrows, small wrinkles, skin dryness and teleangiectasis.
Results. During the study a change in facial furrows depth was observed. Small wrinkles became shallower or disappeared at all in most examined women. These changes in most cases were noticed as early as in the first or second week of the study. Eight patients´ skin became less dry in the first week of the study. In the other 9 persons the skin dryness was improved in the second and third week of the procedures. During the procedures, no adverse feelings or effects occurred. The general condition of skin was improved in 12 patients, in 4 of them the change was considerable or large.
Conclusions. After completed cycle of procedures, a statistically significant change was observed in the intensity of furrows (p=0.0006), small wrinkles (p <= 0.0001) and in the skin dryness (p <= 0.0001). No statistically significant effects of copper lactobionate on dilatated facial small blood vessels were found (p = 0.0651).
