An attempt to use the ultrasonographic test in the subcutaneous tissue diagnostics - our own experienceRenata Sieradzan-Skrzetuska Oddział Kosmetologii Wydziału Farmacji Uniwersytetu Medycznego w Łodzi Summary Edematous-fibrotic-sclerotic paniculopathy (PEFS) is an ailment which affects almost all women, to different extent. Presently its diagnosis comes down only to palpable methods and precise observation of the body regions affected by the lesions. As these methods are burdened with a considerable error due to the lack of comparative and measuring methods, the use of imaging diagnostic methods seems to be a suitable solution, allowing for a precise evaluation of PEFS. Objective. The study is aimed at determination of the usefulness of USG for PEFS diagnostics and possible determination of the degree of advancement of lesions. Material and methods. The study was based on the results of studies carried out in a group of 78 women aged 41. Palpation of the lower limbs skin was carried out, along with the thermographic test of the examined regions and USG of lower limbs subcutaneous tissue. Results. In the first stage of the study the results obtained during palpation and thermographic tests were compared to the parameters of the thickness of subcutaneous tissue obtained in USG. A statistically positive correlation was found between the increase in the subcutaneous tissue thickness and results of palpation, whereas in case of the study of the correlations between the results of thermographic test and evaluation of the thickness of subcutaneous tissue the results were statistically insignificalt. Conclusions. The measurement of the thickness of subcutaneous tissue during USG may indicate changes in the architecture of the subcutaneous adipose tissue, which result in unevennesses on the lower limbs skin surface. The lack of statistically significant dependence between this parameter of USG and the result of thermographic test may point to the PEFS stage in which capillary circulation disorders and subcutaneous tissue edema have not occurred yet.
