Summary
Skin tumors are the most frequently occurring neoplasms in human race, however they are less common within the scalp. Surgical treatment is by far the best treatment option. The type of excision and reconstruction depends on tumor´s character, it´s size and localization, also aesthetic result is important.
Aim. The aim of this research is aesthetic evaluation of the methods used to close the defects after excision of extensive scalp tumors.
Material and methods. In Plastic Surgery Clinic within the period 1990-2004 were treated 15 patients with extensive scalp tumors. The mean neoplasm size was 8,9 x 7,6 cm.
Results. Eleven patient has the excision and reconstruction done in one-stage procedure, while four patients were treated in few stages. In patients treated in one-stage local flap/s or free skin graft were used, while in patient treated in few stages mainly expanders.
Conclusions. The best aesthetic result after excision of extensive scalp tumor is obtained by using expander.
