Summary
Close attention has recently been directed to natural antioxidants diminishing the risk of many diseases and delaying the ageing process. Vegetal polyphenols show considerable antiradical and antiageing effectiveness.
Numerous therapeutic properties of polyphenols which allow their application in cosmetics, have been described.
Polyphenols are a very common group of natural compounds occuring in different parts of plants. They show protective, bacterial and bacteriostatic activity, delay skin ageing processes, absorb UV radiation and positively influence skin micro-circulation, as well as liquidate skin hyperpigmentation.
Applying these compounds in preparations acting directly on skin, as well as diet rich in polyphenols, may appear the most effective in skin protecting and caring.

Key words: skin, free oxygen radicals, antioxidants, polyphenols
