Melanoma is a malignant skin lesion that originates from melanocytic cells. Primary prevention and early detection remain of paramount importance in the fight against the public health threat of cancer. Publicity in the form of campaigns, government programs and promotion of knowledge at outpatient dermatology clinics is intended to increase the awareness of the population. Aim. To assess the knowledge of women undergoing cosmetic procedures about risk factors for melanoma. Materials and methods. The research was conducted in the period from January to March 2023. The study involved 60 women undergoing cosmetic treatments at the cosmetic salon in big city, the average age of the respondents was 30 years (±10 years). The self-designed questionnaire about malignat melanoma was used in the work. Results and conclusions. The study showed that the level of knowledge of women undergoing the cosmetic procedures is satisfactory, they have information about the basic risk factors and know some basic characteristics of melanoma. Unfortunately, awareness of the importance of preventive measures is still too low. Self-examination of the skin without consulting a specialist is the first step to the diagnosis of melanoma, but it is still not enough to be effective in fighting with the growing number of severity cases. Cosmetologists have a chance to contribute to increasing patients´ awareness of prophylaxis and attending examinations, as well as in the early diagnosis of atypical skin moles.
