Summary
Currently, the cosmetics industry is undergoing a kind of cosmetic renaissance, although some unusual ingredients and cosmetic raw materials have been used for care and healing purposes for years. An example of such ingredients are mushrooms. They contain many bioactive compounds, such as: flavonoids, phenolic compounds, polysaccharides, terpenes, fatty acids, numerous vitamins and many micro- and macroelements. Both fruit bodies and mycelium are a rich source of recognized and valuable active ingredients. Cosmetics based on mushroom extracts have antioxidant, anti-aging, anti-wrinkle, whitening, moisturizing, nourishing, regenerating, anti-inflammatory and many other effects. Currently, extracts obtained from various species of mushrooms are used in the production of many cosmetics such as: balms, creams, ointments, face preparations, serums, masks, shampoos, tonics, conditioners, essences and soaps.
