This may result in early and long-term complications. The aim of this article is to discuss the most important legal aspects related to the obligation to obtain the patient´s informed consent to perform breast enlargement surgery using silicone prostheses. Moreover, the paper presents the most common short- and long-term complications after breast plastic surgery using silicone implants. The article draws attention to various aspects of granting consent to treatment, which should be considered in a broader context, which is the patient´s right to information. The most important components of the so-called informed consent to surgery are also summarized, discussing various problems in this area based on court judgments.
