Summary
Introduction. A laser is a device that emits electromagnetic radiation in the ultraviolet, infrared and visible light ranges. We can distinguish several types of laser division in cosmetology and aesthetic medicine, due to: the type of laser medium, the laser energy emitted (power), the way the laser works and the length of the beam.
Aim. The aim of the study was to analyze the literature in terms of lasers used in beauty salons and aesthetic medicine and their effectiveness in removing excessive hair and revitalizing the skin.
Material and methods. The study was based on the analysis of scientific publications available in the Embase and PubMed databases.
Results. 11 studies on hair reduction using lasers and 6 studies on skin revitalization were analyzed. The descriptions included data such as: the type of laser used, the number of clients participating in the study, the age of the study group, the number of treatments performed, the assessment of the effectiveness of the treatments, and the conclusions of the studies.
Conclusions. Research confirms the effectiveness of the use of lasers in hair reduction and skin revitalization. Achieving permanent hair reduction depends on the area of the body where the treatment is performed. The effects of hair reduction and skin revitalization depend on the number of treatments performed. Research shows that different types of lasers are used for a given type of surgery.
