Assessment of students´ knowledge about carboxytherapy treatment

Summary
Introduction. Carboxytherapy involves injecting purified carbon dioxide into tissues, in different parts of the body, intradermally or subcutaneously. Carboxytherapy is a frequently chosen treatment due to its wide spectrum of activity. It is used, among others, in reducing wrinkles, stretch marks, atrophic scars, improving skin firmness, reducing cellulite, as well as in the case of puffiness and dark circles under the eyes.
Aim. The aim of the study was to assess the knowledge of students of various divisions at the Medical University of Łodz about the carboxytherapy procedure.
Material and methods. The study was conducted using a questionnaire created in Google Forms. The study material was a group of 70 students of the following divisions: cosmetology, medical, military-medical and medical-dental. The survey included a set of questions about the carboxytherapy procedure.
Results. The vast majority of respondents described their knowledge of the carboxytherapy procedure as good. As many as 80% of respondents said that, carboxytherapy treatment is effective. More than half of the respondents believe that, cellulite and excess body fat are the most common indications for carboxytherapy treatment.
Conclusions. The level of students´ of the Medical University of Lodz knowledge about the carboxytherapy procedure is satisfying. Cosmetology students have a higher level of knowledge about the indications, contraindications, complications and technique of the procedure, which may be due to the study program, which includes discussion of the carboxytherapy procedure.
